Prontera Culvert
Serving the City's Needs
The culverts were built over generations by Prontera's architects, progressively growing as the city did. They carry the waste of the city away from Prontera, depositing it into the many streams and rivers to its west. Many years ago, there was a spell woven into the walls of the culvert to purify the water, making it safer for servicepeople to tend to the pipes and having minimal environmental impact. Over time, however, these spells have waned...
Overrun by Pests
And now, in the darkness, pests claim the culverts as their home. Most commonly found is the thief bug; covetous insects that scurry about with their chitinous legs, laying eggs wherever they can. These creatures have been nursed by the decaying arcane power in the pipes, and the deeper one ventures into the culverts, the more mutated by magic these creatures become. It is rumoured that those who have been most affected by the culverts' magic take on a golden hue, their carapaces so soaked with magic that its effect is dulled.
Accessing the Culverts
Due to the danger presented by the pests and pestilence in the culverts, the Prontera Chivalry has restricted access to the area. Any prospective adventurers must first notify the Prontera Chivalry of their intent to venture into the Culverts. This is done at the Knight Guild (prontera 45, 346). The only proof required for entering the Culverts is your word! You may now enter the culverts at your leisure by speaking to the Entrance Guard west of the city of Prontera.
Trivia
- New swordsmen and acolytes are often paired together and sent into these culverts to quell the burgeoning population of pests. This has resulted in a widespread fear of insects amongst the clergy.
- It is rumoured that only one Golden Thiefbug can exist at any given time. Scholars debate about why this might be.
